Waterproof Level 2 EV Charger for Outdoor and Home Use
The Liniotech IP65 Waterproof EV Charger is a UL certified, 40A Level 2 wallbox built for outdoor and indoor charging. It delivers 9.6kW through a universal J1772 connector and a 23ft cable, and its IP65 / NEMA 4 enclosure keeps working through rain, snow and freezing nights down to -22°F (-30°C). Mount it on your garage wall, an exterior wall or a driveway pedestal, and charge your EV wherever you park.
Many EV owners don't park in a garage. They use the driveway, a carport, or the side of the house, exactly where ordinary chargers struggle. Water gets in, cables crack in the cold, and connections corrode. This waterproof EV charger is built for those conditions. Its sealed enclosure, tough polycarbonate housing and wide operating range make it a reliable outdoor EV charger for home, year after year.
Built for Outdoor Use
IP65 / NEMA 4 waterproof enclosure. The housing is dust-tight and protected against water jets. It also resists rain, sleet, snow and hose-directed water, so you can wash your car right next to it.
Weatherproof in heat and cold. The charger operates from -22°F to 113°F (-30°C to 45°C). As a result, it handles icy winter mornings and hot summer afternoons alike.
Tough polycarbonate housing. The PC EXL9330S shell resists impact and stays stable in direct sun and freezing temperatures. In short, it's ready for exposed outdoor locations.
Wall or floor mounting. Mount this weatherproof wall-mounted charger directly on a wall, or use a floor pedestal beside a driveway or parking space with no wall nearby.
23ft cable that reaches where you park. The long cable reaches the charge port whether you pull in nose-first, back in, or park two cars side by side.
A UL Certified Wallbox for Fast Home Charging
40A, 9.6kW Level 2 AC charging. This home EV wallbox charger adds roughly 30 to 35 miles of range per hour, up to seven times faster than a standard 120V outlet. That means most EVs charge fully overnight.
Plug and play, no app needed. Plug the charger into a NEMA 14-50 or NEMA 6-50 outlet, connect your car, and charging starts automatically. There's no Wi-Fi to drop and no account to manage.
UL certified for safety. The charger is certified to UL 2594 and UL 2231-1/-2 and complies with SAE J1772. Those are the North American safety standards electricians and inspectors look for in a certified wallbox charger.
Built-in leakage protection. A 20mA charge circuit interrupting device (CCID) cuts power instantly if it detects leakage current. On top of that, the charger protects against overcurrent, ground faults, surges, voltage and frequency faults, and overheating.
Anti-welding protection. The charger monitors its internal relay contacts. If a contact ever sticks, it shuts down instead of leaving the cable live. That's a critical safeguard for an outdoor charging station that stays plugged in around the clock.
Universal J1772 Compatibility: Will It Charge My Car?
This universal EV charger uses the J1772 connector, also called Type 1, which is the North American standard for Level 2 charging. It works with virtually every EV and plug-in hybrid sold in the US, including:
- Tesla: Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X (with the J1772 adapter Tesla supplies)
- Hyundai, Kia and Genesis: IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, Kona Electric, EV6, Niro EV, Genesis GV60, Electrified G80
- Ford: Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, F-150 Lightning Pro, E-Transit
- Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC: Bolt EV, Bolt EUV, Cadillac LYRIQ, GMC Hummer EV
- Rivian and Lucid: R1T, R1S, Lucid Air
- Mercedes-Benz and BMW: EQS, EQS SUV, EQB, BMW i4 eDrive40, iX xDrive50, MINI Cooper SE
- Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen: Q4 e-tron, Q4 e-tron Sportback, e-tron, e-tron Sportback, e-tron GT, Taycan, ID.4
- Volvo, Polestar and Jaguar: XC40 Recharge, C40, Polestar 2, I-PACE
- Nissan and Toyota: LEAF, Ariya, bZ4X
Newer cars with a NACS (Tesla-style) port. Many 2025-and-later models from Hyundai, Kia, Ford, GM, Rivian and others now ship with a NACS charge port. These cars charge from this charger with a J1772-to-NACS adapter, which many automakers include with the vehicle.
Outdoor EV Charger Installation
A waterproof charger needs a weatherproof circuit too. Before an outdoor EV charger installation at home, make sure you have:
- A dedicated 50A, 240V circuit with a NEMA 14-50 or NEMA 6-50 outlet that matches your plug version.
- An outdoor-rated receptacle with a weatherproof in-use cover, so the plug stays protected while it's connected.
- A mounting spot clear of standing water, snow-plow paths and vehicle impact.
- A licensed electrician to apply local code requirements, which may include GFCI protection for the outlet.
This model plugs in rather than hardwiring. Not sure which suits your home? Read our guide on hardwired vs plug-in EV chargers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are electric car chargers waterproof?
Not all of them. Indoor-only chargers aren't built for rain, so for outdoor use, look for an IP65 or NEMA 4 rating. This Liniotech charger carries both, so it's protected against dust, rain, snow and water jets.
Can I put an EV charger outside?
Yes, if it's rated for outdoor use. This waterproof EV charger is IP65 / NEMA 4 rated for exterior walls, carports and driveway pedestals. Pair it with an outdoor-rated outlet and a weatherproof in-use cover.
Is it safe to charge an EV in the rain?
Yes. Weatherproof chargers and EV charge ports are designed for wet conditions, and the J1772 connector only energizes after it locks to the car. In addition, the 20mA CCID cuts power instantly if it detects any leakage.
Do I need a waterproof box for my EV charger?
No. The charger's own IP65 / NEMA 4 enclosure already protects it outdoors. However, the outlet it plugs into should have a weatherproof in-use cover, so the plug stays sealed while charging.
What does IP65 mean on an EV charger?
The first digit (6) means the enclosure is fully dust-tight. The second digit (5) means it's protected against water jets from any direction. Higher ratings such as IP67 cover temporary submersion, which wall-mounted chargers don't need.
Is this compatible with my car?
Almost certainly. It uses the universal J1772 connector, which fits virtually every non-Tesla EV and plug-in hybrid in North America. Teslas and newer NACS-port vehicles charge through a J1772 adapter, often included with the car.
Is this a good home charger for the IONIQ 5 or IONIQ 6?
Yes. Both models accept more than 9.6kW on Level 2, so this 40A charger delivers its full output to them. Earlier model years plug straight into the J1772 connector, while 2025 and later NACS-port versions use the J1772 adapter.
Is this a Type 2 wallbox charger?
No. It's a Type 1 (J1772) wallbox, the standard for North American vehicles. Type 2 is the European standard and won't fit US cars. For European vehicles, see our Type 2 portable EV charger.
What type of EV charger is this?
It's a Level 2 AC charger running on 240V. Level 1 uses a standard 120V outlet and adds only a few miles per hour. DC fast chargers are public stations. For home charging, Level 2 is the practical sweet spot.
Can it be hardwired?
This model connects with a NEMA 14-50 or NEMA 6-50 plug. Because it plugs in, you can also take it with you when you move. For a full comparison, see our hardwired vs plug-in EV charger guide.
What warranty does it include?
Every charger includes a 2-year limited warranty from Liniotech.
